This charming apartment is set in the heart of Marylebone, London.  The apartment was originally a very dark, dingy, unappealing space.  This is a problem that so many of London’s mansion block apartments suffer



We were approached to create a solution that would give light to the space, accentuate the large collection of artwork and provide a design that echoed the mixture of mid to late twentieth-century furniture



A mixture of single and triple downlights were selected from the Viabizzuno range.  The use of triple downlights in the living room & kitchen meant fewer installation positions giving the ceiling a clean, uncluttered look whilst allowing the flexibility required to ensure the apartment could be brightly lit when required



Within the entrance hall, a concealed, trimless lighting slot hides six spotlights to highlight a large painting.  This modern take on track lighting offers all the versatility of track yet completely disappears behind the ceiling



The master en-suite bathroom had a small amount of natural daylight from a central lightwell within the mansion block.  The view into this lightwell was not great so an artificial window was specified.  This full height, frosted glass door sits in front of the original window but is supplemented by dimmable fluorescent backlighting.  The appearance is an evenly lit glass door of which the brightness can be controlled to suit the mood of the user



Softening the appearance of the apartment, a range of decorative lights are used. Complimenting the furniture, classic pieces from Louis Poulsen are used.  A PH Louvre pendant sits above the Saarinen dining table creating focus to the space.  In the entrance hall a PH Snowball hangs from the ceiling above a PH Table light on the console table.  Elsewhere, in one of the children’s rooms, Foscarini’s Blob XL floor light doubles as a seat and creates a very relaxed environment for entertaining friends
